| ADULT LEADER TRAINING INFORMATION |
This is the time of year when many new leaders are asking "what do I do
now?" The answer, of course, is GO TO TRAINING!!! The sooner, the
better. Training is also recommended for any registered adults involved in
Pack, Troop or Crew activities.
As we prepare for a new program year, remember our district goal is to have
100% of all unit leaders trained for their specific positions. All new leaders
and parents should begin training as soon as possible after joining a unit.
What Makes a Trained Leader?
Youth Protection and Fast Start training are the first steps for any new
volunteer. These short courses will help them get started and lay the
groundwork for their leadership roles.
Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they
have completed New Leader Essentials, Boy Scout Leader Specific Training,
and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.
Troop Committee members are considered trained when they have completed New
Leader Essentials and the Troop Committee Challenge.
Be prepared to incorporate training into you unit program as a regular
activity.
The schedule for training for the next few months is below. Youth
Protection, Cub Scout Leader Fast Start, Boy Scout Leader Fast Start,
Venturing Advisor Fast Start, Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat, Troop
Committee Challenge, and many other training resources are available online.
All adults who plan in participate in Troop activities MUST complete Archdioscesan child protection training.
They also MUST get a criminal background check and a child abuse clearance certificate.
